The Calcutta District R. R & R. Office has been entrusted with the undernoted responsibility.
(i) The Minister-in-charge, R. R & R. Department is empowered to utilise a “Discretionary Fund” and to sanction financial grant up to Rs. 500/- per annum to deserving displaced persons. Fund is allotted to Deputy Controller (R), Calcutta, who acts as the D.D.O. in this regard (G.O. No. 2470 B & A; Dt. 5.12.1997).
(ii) To impart free medical treatment to displaced persons T.B. patients R. R & R. Department maintains and retains R.R. reserved beds in different T.B. Hospitals and Sanatoriums all over the State of West Bengal, round the year. Both indoor and outdoor facilities are available. Even minor ailing children of T.B. patients can have the benefit of this free medical treatment.
(iii) There exists two Tenement Schemes under Calcutta district R. R & R. Office (Ganguli Bagan and Poddar Park Tenement Scheme), which, in fact, are two housing complexes on rental basis, and earmarked for D.P. Govt. employees of low- income category (both State and Central Government). Collection of rent of Government flats and deposit under proper Head of A/C, in the R.B.I. Calcutta regularly, is one of the distinctive functions of the Calcutta District R. R & R. Office. Maintenance, repairs, management of civic amenities etc. in respect of the tenements are routine work.
(iv) To provide self-employment facilities to the displaced persons families, refugee hawkers’ stalls have been set up in Sealdah, Manicktala and Sraddhananda Park area. Collection of rent per day and depositing it with R.B.I., Calcutta is also a routine work.
(v) Regularization of G.S. colonies under administrative Control of DC (R) Calcutta.
Apart from these functions, all other works are identical with those of the other District Level Offices of R. R & R. Department.
